HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY, SOUNIS!

Eight years ago this week Queen rowana and the elusive eddis decided to start up a new community dedicated to the Attolia books. Since then we've discussed nearly every aspect of Megan's books, celebrated the publication of The King of Attolia and A Conspiracy of Kings, recommended other well-loved books, created reams of fanart, and generated not nearly enough crack.

Let us celebrate!  With the recent announcement that Megan is now working on not Book 5 but Book 6 (yes, this was shared in notes from a recent meetup!  Where have you been, anyway?) it is Time to Speculate.

What's going to happen to our dear Gen, Irene, Sophos, Helen, et al?  Is Gen really ill?  Are there royal offspring in the making?  Will Attolia ever catch "Sandy"?  Where in heck/afterlife is poor Costis?  Will the Medes win the day?  Is someone actually going to offend the gods, eventually?  Where would Gen keep a war elephant, anyway?  No detail is too small for comment, crack-filled or in earnest.

What's going to happen, people??

I don't know where Costis is presently, but I am fairly certain that he will become royal elephant keeper when Gen acquires his much anticipated elephants.

But the part about working on book 6...does this mean book 5 is literally in the publication process? I thought she was rewriting book 5, not starting on book 6!

Not sure about the status of Book 5 (maybe it's like when someone is pregnant; they just have to let it gestate and wait until it's...um, ripe?), but she *is* working on Book 6.

Lol, maybe Book 6 will get done first! And it will be Return of the King (I think that title's already taken tho) and then Book 5 will finally come out and it will be Attolia: the Lost Years.

Sounis started during the time I read all three books! I saw Sounis then but only lurked and waited till three yrs or so later before I actually joined.

So does that mean there will be a shorter* wait in between the publishing of Book 5&6?? Sounds like a fair deal...since we are waiting it out now.. I'm growing old with these books from teen to young adult I think I be hitting young(late) adult by the completion of series... Lucky i only discovered the books upon the release of KOA.

Speculation: Gen is up to no good.

Well, obviously, Gen is going to get rid of those useless dogs (all they do is bite him, after all), and keep his nice new war-elephant in the erstwhile kennel!

Well, a couple of years ago MWT dropped into The Conspiracy Room for one of the chats and mentioned, cryptically, that she'd been writing about elephants. Later, when pressed (and I do mean pressed), she elaborated that there is going to be a scene near the end of the last book, where Gen and Attolia et. al. are approaching the Mede army and are surprised to see a war elephant. Gen is intrigued, and says he's going to steal it. He and Attolia fuss at one another, as they do, about where in the world would they keep it, and that certainly Gen couldn't steal something that big. Anyway, it relieves the tension created by seeing a WAR ELEPHANT coming their way and Attolia knows, deep down, that HE CAN STEAL ANYTHING and they just may have their very own elephant.

Of course, I could be totally mucking up the tale, but that's sort of how I remember the story. Can anyone else confirm?

Well, he's stolen, the gift, a queen and a kingdom and some earrings - of course he could steal a war elephant! Thats so exciting. Just reminds me of the movie, "300". Ooo I wonder if she'll drop some Giraffes, maybe a Lion and some wild monkeys. Very cool MWT!

All I've ever heard is that there are elephants in the last book. But I don't know if that's true anymore; she sounded a little less certain last time...

I basically turn into Gollum every time I think about book 5 (Precious...) so it's probably best I not attempt to speculate any further down the road.

I'm guessing that Costis is somewhere on the continent, perhaps negotiating the purchase of said war-elephants? I think that our favorite kingdoms (which are now all collected under Attolian rule) will be facing a big challenge. And I mean a bigger challenge than having Eugenides as their King. :)

I wasn't in on the beginning of Sounis, but I have had a wonderful time ever since I joined.

Speculation, speculation:

Ummmm -

Nahuseresh will offend the gods, and *boy* will he be sorry!

There *are* royal offspring in the offing; and when they are born, for safety's sake, and because Gen has a sick and twisted sense of humor, the Giant Eddisian Nannies will be required really to be Giant Eddisian Nannies. Diaper duty and all.

Sandy *will* be caught, and just as Attolia, in a fury as she always is when Gen's in danger, is about to have her cast into the deepest darkest dungeon, with torture and death to follow, Sandy will humbly present to her a new nut confection in apology, and Attolia (who is pregnant, and having cravings) will be so enchanted by it that she will not only forgive their inventor but will name the confection Pecan Sandies in her honor.

Sounis is my favourite corner of the internet! (Are we a corner? Or a room? A suite? A castle? perhaps a megaron. No, that seems a bit big for us. Oh, wait, I think we're a country. Small country, very nice. Good weather.)

I'm very glad it is continuing to be here. I would be very sad indeed if it went away.

Sometimes I wonder what will happen to Sounis after the 6th book comes out, and then I think we'll continue to exist and adore whatever MWT writes next, and maybe we'll become a kind of book discussion group as well. What I mean by this is I just want to talk about Bujold with you all sometimes... We can do compare and contrast discussions between Megan's books and others. And group read-alongs.

Long live Sounis! We should really have a flag. National anthem?
