It's set during Hurricane Sandy, but the leads are fannish, so there're lots of Bujold & Pratchett moments. It's so immediately immersive, I read the whole thing while in the middle of rereading a Jennifer Crusie novel. There're family, friends, loyalty, and a tinge of O. Henry-ish magic. It's in chapters for easy reading, & I recommend it gleefully, acquisitively, & other fun filkferengi things.

Date: 11/20/13 08:34 pm (UTC)As for books that make you go "squee!", I'm assuming you mean both mwt *and* Bujold. There's certainly a gracious plenty of awesome to go around. A heaping helping, in fact, with no sand in it.

But I had already read the Queens Thief books (that were out) when I found Sounis, so Sounis didn't really influence me to read those, just made me very happy that I could connect with other people who had. :)
I meant that it was Sounisians like yourself who influenced me into reading Bujold, so most of the Bujold fans I know are on Sounis, and I wasn't sure where else to find them. Or where to initiate discussions of Bujold books, more accurately. Though I may do an OT Bujold discussion on here some time soon, I've been meaning to, just to thank y'all for influencing me to read them.
See, I'm a completely new Bujold fan. :D Because that happened really recently: just this summer I decided it was time to get into this series a lot of people seemed to like, so I found a copy of The Vor Game at the library. Then I got Young Miles and went back and read The Warrior's Apprentice (and further back for Cordelia's Honor) and on from there.
It has been been SO VERY EXCITING to get into a series this much. I haven't discovered a series I've loved this much since I was a kid. Really. The fact that I can love adult literature on this level is so, so exciting, because it hasn't really happened for me before.

P. S. I recommend getting the list on digest, which are typically 10-20 messages bundled together. Some folks like getting individual messages, for easier filtering on different topics, but I like the convenience & de-cluttering of a digest.
