Finally, a MAP!

Today, MWT posted on her tumblr feed: "The Thief was published twenty years, four months, and 23 days ago. Twenty years, four month and *21* days ago, people started asking me for a map. The wait is almost over. My editor says she is sending it to me tomorrow and I will post it here."

Later in the day, she posted the image below. Is this the map we've been waiting for (It is not completely clear to me)? It looks AH-MAYZ-ING.

So, the inscription on the side says (to the best of my understanding), "This map of Eddis, Attolia, and Sounis was prepared for Her Highness Gitta Kingsdaughter by her tutor, Tykus Namikus for her reference while reading the books of the Queen's Thief."

So....if this IS the official map...who is Gitta? Royalty, obviously, but from which family/country? DISCUSS.

Is Methona suppose to be Methana? If so, we officially know where half-way to Methana is!

Attolia is MUCH bigger than Sounis or Eddis. Maybe, twice as big...

I let out an actual yelp when I scrolled down and saw this. It's SO BEAUTIFUL it HURTS.* The inscription confuses me (who?) but OMG, Sounis and Eddis and Attolia and those little contested islands are all where I pictured them! Eeeeee!!

*I'm seriously going to have to get myself together so I can READ Thick As Thieves rather than simply stroke it and weep for a week or two after its release...

I also gotta say, the goddess is gorgeous. Is that Hephestia? She has the thunderbolts at the end of her spear. The reason I am not sure is that she is holding a helmet in her hand, and I was not aware that Hephestia was so warlike. Maybe I am not remembering her so well...

Also, what's with the griffon? Are there references to griffons in the books? If so, where? Would that give us a clue to who Gitta is? I can't imagine that a griffon would be added without a good reason to a specially-made map for a princess.

I love it! I never expected it to be so ornate and beautiful and in color! The first-person books do exist in universe, since they are written by the characters. Maybe, they became historical texts in the future? It amuses me to think of TT as a history book!

Now for random thoughts:

Okay, it's either sounis is very small and Eddis just owns all the mountains though I thought the palace was like near the middle of all the mountains and that why its well protected. Okay, I guess that why Gen is the King of Kings, Attolia has the largest land space.

What happened to the islands Attolia and Sounis/Eddis was fighting over during the second book? Thegmis I think it was.

Just very curious what is the distance from Eddis palace to Attolia's. U know - got to figure out how long it takes Gen and the crew to escape Attolia and run back to Eddis.

Yes, it is good to print the map and re-read the books to connect the dots of 'voyage'.
