Attolian nut-cakes? Or grilled caggi?
And are we to presume no sand?!?

What sort of nuts do you suppose go into these Attolian cakes? I'm thinking almonds are a likely candidate.

I feel a baking spree coming on.

Almonds would be a good match for the olives so prominent in Attolia -- not to mention very tasty! I think I have a honey and almond cake recipe somewhere ... perhaps then topped with more honey and roughly chopped almonds...?
[bother! Neither almonds or honey in the larder cupboard! :( ]

Mmm!! I'm a fan of anything honey-flavored, and Kamet does mention honey on top of the nut cakes. I have a recipe for honey buttercream (intended for topping black tea infused cakes). Maybe I could adapt that.

Oh no! I forgot about your goats! That option is pretty much dead last on my list of picks for conspiracy room snacks, don't worry. :)

I definitely thought of you when I read this part (on page 223, right after they've managed to cross the mountains and are entering a populated area):

There would be no more hunting with bow and no more caggi either. Any goats we saw would have owners who would strongly object to our shooting their farm animals..."

;)

I feel like Helen's goats are practically sacred to this fandom. Welcome to Sounis: Do Not Invoke the Wrath of the Great Goat Herder. Enjoy your stay.

The humble goat herder hopes that the goats are not tiresome?

Not at all! I think it's awesome that we Sounisians have our own goat expert in residence! :D

I've been making, flavouring and photographing popcorn all day for work [yes, all right, eating it too!] -- shall I just bring the left overs?!?
:D

Popcorn is an Exotic Foreign Snack Food here in the UK! XD
At least, exotic enough for an editor to justify publishing an article about how to grow, cook and flavour it...

Huzzah! Cry havoc and let slip the spoilers! Looking forward to this...

My copy still hasn't arrived in the mail yet, which means I haven't been able to go back and comb through it yet for more details.....

Oh no! Are you getting a signed copy? I know someone else who's finding theirs is apparently walking or hitch-hiking or going via the Mede Empire... :(

Yes, I'm waiting on a signed copy...*suffers*

I read somewhere recently that reciting long sections of translated poetry is good for passing the time...

Noooooo!!!! I still haven't gotten my copy, but my coworker said that her family did (who ordered from the same bookstore). With sinking dread, I began to wonder if maybe my address was entered wrong. Occasionally my browser will autocorrect my address as I'm filling it out (changing the town to the next one over, or taking out the "Hill" in my road name), and while I usually catch it....

I checked. Sure enough, the form had autofilled or autocorrected to the wrong town! What am I to do? There's a very small chance that the post office will notice the error ("That town doesn't have a street by that name, but the next town over does...") and send it accordingly, or they might notice my unusual last name and recall that my in laws live in town..... *sigh* It's hopeless. I'll have to contact the seller and hope that the package returns to them smoothly.

Maybe check if your library has a copy? It's a long shot, but at least that way you don't have to wait any longer.

OH, I've already read it (by stealing the copy from the library where I work). I'm waiting on my copy that should be signed and personalized by MWT.

Oh no oh no oh no! :(
Is there any hope for going to the postal sorting office, in case they have it impounded in the "returns bin" for the incorrect address?

So the seller got me the tracking info, and sure enough that package is languishing in a distribution center two states away. I tried calling the center with no luck (just rang and rang endlessly) so instead I made an online account with USPS and sent a request in to intercept the package and send it to a "new" address. You have to pay a little extra for this, but I want THE original book that MWT signed. I'm nervous because while I was trying to find a direct line to the center, I saw the Google reviews, and it looks like people only left a review when their package got stuck in limbo at this center (one also complained about the phone never getting answered). I'm hoping the intercept will jostle the package lose from their grasp...

Sounds like your book is going on quite the detour/adventure, in keeping with its subject matter. :) I do hope it makes it home to you soon! Keep us updated.

(I considered ordering a signed copy myself, but the expediency of Amazon prime won out.)

Anyways, it'll be something to treasure, for sure, once it reaches you!
