SLJ, MWT, and maps
Jun. 9th, 2017 09:39 pmSo....this is too good not to share, but don't ask how I got it.

I have been told that this link will not last forever, and it may go down sometime next week. I will try to remember to remove the post when that happens.
MWT spoke at the School Library Journal Day of Dialog and I just so happen to have the link and password to her presentation. It is all about the maps in the new book! Her speech lasts for about 30 min at the beginning of the Livestream. Enjoy!

P.S. I assumed the dolphins on the map were another reference to the dolphin ring/crest in Rosemary Sutcliff's books. Did anyone else?

Date: 6/25/17 01:19 am (UTC)"Why think about anything when you can overthink it?" I have found my life motto.
I particularly enjoyed her discussion of point of view. It felt like she was tapping her finger along the side of her nose and eyeing us conspiratorially. These quotes (innocent as they sound) are relevant to the interpretation of the maps, so I'm jotting them here for preservation in case the link dies: "When you have a different perspective, the world can look very different. What you see really depends on what viewpoint and where you're looking from. ... So! When you look at some of the information on those maps, I hope you'll consider who drew the map and what they're telling you about their own world."
