Okay, okay, I know I waited a looong time to announce this, but I wanted to hold off for a spell just in case the release date for RoT was delayed again. The absence of an ARC was, especially, making me reluctant. However, it does appear the book is on track, so I’m pretty confident in moving forward with celebratory plans for before and after the book. (Also, I’ve been working 40+ hours, six days a week, but I’m not going crazy, I swear... *manic laughter*)

So, so , so… I’m issuing the following edicts.

Part One: Before the Return

(1) The Return of the Reread
Yes, I’m trying to be dramatic. Since RoT is the final book in the series, I wanted to plan something that we’ve never done before on [livejournal.com profile] sounis for this final pre-release reread. Make the discussions live! Yes, we’re moving things over to the Conspiracy Room.

Considering how successful the quarantine chats were and how many people attended, I wanted to use the Conspiracy Room for the discussion portion of the reread. In the past, the discussions for rereads have been asynchronous, forum based, and over a few months. My hope is that synchronous chats in the Conspiracy Room over a few weeks might be a bit more engaging and garner more consistent attendance.

Here’s how this will work… At the beginning of the week, I will remind you of your reading assignment. This will, basically, be one book and one short story a week. The following Sunday evening, we will have a chat in the Conspiracy Room discussing that book and short story. We won’t have discussion leads this time. Instead, everyone attending should bring at least one discussion topic with them. If you can’t come up with a topic, bring a hand pun instead. :) Better yet, steal one from one of the old rereads. That’s the spirit!

Also, even if your plan is to reread all the books on October 5th, you’ve probably read these books enough times to still participate. No worries if you don’t plan to reread at the same time. Come to the chats anyway!

Here’s a schedule!

August 24th - August 28th
Read: The Thief, Thief! (short story), and Eddis

August 30th
Conspiracy Room Discussion of The Thief

August 31st - September 4th
Read: The Queen of Attolia and Destruction

September 6th
Conspiracy Room Discussion of The Queen of Attolia

September 7th - September 11th
Read: The King of Attolia and Knife Dance

September 13th
Conspiracy Room Discussion of The King of Attolia

September 14th - September 18th
Read: A Conspiracy of Kings and Wine Shop

September 20th
Conspiracy Room Discussion of A Conspiracy of Kings

September 21st - September 25th
Read: Thick As Thieves

September 27th
Conspiracy Room Discussion of Thick As Thieves

That’s the gist of that for now. More details to come soon, along with a day-to-day reading schedule.

(2) Midnight Release Party on October 5th
Countdown to midnight in the Conspiracy Room the night before The Return of the Thief comes out. Well, midnight relative to wherever you live. Exact time to come.

(3) #whereseugenides
Already a thing being orchestrated by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] whataliethatwas. Post photos of the books roaming the world with you.

(4) Something Super Secret for Members Only!
Still a secret and a work in progress. More to come soon!

Part Two: After the Return

(1) Getting the Party Started
Expect tons of discussion of the new book on Sounis as well as more regular Conspiracy Room chats this October.

(2) #thereseugenides
As a sequel to #whereseugenides, I’d love to see photos of everyone’s complete set of books once we all have our hard copy of Return of the Thief. Whatever mismatched set of copies you happen to have in their place of honor on your bookshelf. Mark your posts #thereseugenides.

(3) Holiday Themed Hamiathes Fic Exchange
In the spirit of previous Hamiathes Fic Exchanges, I’m planning to arrange a holiday themed fic exchange this Christmas. Please, let me know if you would like to volunteer to help with this.

(4) It’s for MWT, and It’s a Secret
Read THIS, member locked post, if you would like to participate in a super secret gift for MWT. You must be signed in and a member of Sounis to view the post.

That’s all I have for now. Please, let me know if you have more idea of ways we can celebrate!

Wow, wow, WOW. This all sounds fantastic and the timing of it all sounds perfect. I'm sorry I haven't been any help to you but please let me know what I can do. Count on my being at the chats, for sure. I've had this idea for a #whereseugenides photo but haven't figured out a way to make it happen. Yet.

Whew! That's quite a list! I don't know if I'll be reading along at this pace, since my plan is for a 6-day readcation leading up to October 6....but I can still probably join in on the discussions!

Amazing, looking forward to those chats! Though I should probably hurry up and finish all the other books I'm currently in the middle of ...
Also ... quite the plan ... but that's a challenge.

Wow, Lady Jane - thanks for all the thought that went into this! (BTW, the link to the super secret post isn’t working for me, and I didn’t see it in the history ... help!)

Count me in! I've been having trouble settling into books lately (with a few rare, specific exceptions), so I'm glad to have a schedule and chats with y'all to look forward to.

This is all fabulous and genuinely made me very, very, very happy. Been away from all cell signals and internet access for a bit but saw this post right before I left and it brightened my thoughts all weekend. I genuinely laughed out loud at the #thereseugenides idea and I support it 100%. I've got the reread schedule in my calendar and am excited for this approach!
