I just finished my reread of ACoK and was musing about dear, dear Sophos and his...

Beard.

He's gone from a sweet, niave boy to a ruthless man, fighting battles and shooting ambassadors. Well, those thoughts reminded me of the kerfluffle about the book cover, when ACoK first was released in 2010. Remember?

Deirdre's post about Vince Natale's cover art, including the Orlando Bloom Sophos.

Tiegirl's Absolutely Accurate Description of the Back-and-Forth Between Sounis and Greenwillow.

Oh, and that made me think of Emily B. Martin and her musings about Eugenides and his beard. Really, so many references to beards--I haven't even mentioned Nahuserish and his forked red beard.

I was always a little sad they didn't continue with the Vince Natale covers. They were pretty!

Those covers were gorgeous (the cover for KoA is, in fact, what first drew my attention to the series).

I like the new covers as well, but like Checkers, I'm sad we'll never get a matching Natale set. The other day I was contemplating what a Natale cover for TaT might have looked like.

I've always thought of close up of Costis's hands breaking Kamet's neck chain would have done nicely.

That was a very fun time. And I'd forgotten the blogpost I wrote about it that's mentioned in the comments to the second link above....

I don't remember how I found it, but it was Deirde's Vince Natale cover art post that tipped the scales and caused me to join Sounis.

I'd never seen the Tiegirl post before now -- hilarious.

I assume it's already been noticed that the first blurb for CoK, linked from the Carlottelibrary blog misspelled Megan's name. (!)

On his website, the photo of Mark Turner shows him with a beard. Does this mean anything? Do beards represent more than the transition to manhood?
