After much thought, it's been decided that anyone who want to participate in a live chat can come along from 9-10 pm London time (GMT) on Yahoo IM, this Friday. As far as I know, most of you guys live under Eastern US time, which means 4-5 pm (though you might want to check this). This webpage gives details of the current time in all cities, so you should be able to work out what time 9-10 pm in London will be where you live.

We'll be discussing MWT, or KoA, or any random thing that happens to catch someone's fancy. Yahoo has been chosen because I have it on good authority that group chats are allowed, and do work. If this turns out to be wrong, I will personally slaughter my source, and apologise profusely to you guys. :)
Most of you guys seem to already have each other screen-names, but just in case, could anyone who thinks that there may be even the slightest possibility of their showing up on Friday, please post their s.n. in a comment. This means that everyone (or just myself, and someone else, in case I am called off the computer by some terrible emergancy such as laundry or dinner) can add everyone and keep the chat going, and see when people come online. No one has to be there for the full hour, and giving your screen-name does not oblige you to show up if you find that you can't, though of course, the more the merrier. (Plus, the more of us there are, the easier it'll be to stop some of us getting drunk on cyber wine) ;D
I know it seems a lot to go through just to decide whether we should get a chatroom or not, but I want to make sure that if we were to get a chat room more than two or three of us would use it, and also that you guys would enjoy it. It'd be pointless if you didn't, after all.
Secondly, I wanted to point out the wonderful lyrics which
ferris_girl has composed, for the anthem to Gen (a few posts back). They're fantastic, though it would be nice to have a few more entries and sets of lyrics. They can be as good or as bad as you like, and I think I'll leave the post open for a week or two before declaring
ferris_girl the unchallanged winner.
And finally, simply because I want to rant, amazon still haven't dispatched my copy of KoA. They have about 2 hours before the dispatch estimate time finishes, and they get an angry email from me. *shakes fist at amazon*

Date: 2/2/06 03:38 am (UTC)Ro, will you send an invitation to us, or something? Not sure how it works.
Grrr. Amazon MUST get your copy to you. Want me to swim mine across the ocean to you? If you don't have it yet, do you want to wait on the chat?

Date: 2/2/06 04:43 pm (UTC)I'm not entirely sure. As far as I know, there's some sor of conference function, but I've never had more than one person online on my IM to try it out. I was hoping that if we all added each other, the first of you guys to get there could start chattnig and add the rest of us as we come online. I'm hoping to be sitting there five minutes early, but my parrot is notorious for disrupting internet time. :)
I'm am very cross at amazon. Sadly, it would be useless to send an angry email untl tomorrow afternoon, because tomorrow's when the fnial delivery date is. Though since they still haven't dispatched it, I don't see how they're going to get it to me by tomorrow. Either way, I most probably won't have the book by tomorrow evening. :( So I'll get you guys started and maybe stay for half the convo, and turn around and close my eyes and plug my ears when you want to talk about KoA. :) It's cool, this chat's taken too long to organise to reschedule for me.
Oh, I'm babbling again. *stops*

Date: 2/2/06 09:21 pm (UTC)I'm thinking I won't be able to be there until 4:30 or so. Not sure; it depends on what the day brings. Hoping it will bring good things and I can get home early.

Date: 2/2/06 09:36 pm (UTC)The only problem with postponing the chat is that I now suspect it could be as much as two weeks before I get hold of KoA. I don't want to make any of you guys wait that long to talk about the book.
You guys could try a thread like checkers suggested. Or we could get together tomorrow and just not talk about KoA. But I honestly don't mind if you guys want to, I'm fine with closing my eyes for a while. :)
It's up to you lot really. What would all of you prefer to do?

Date: 2/2/06 11:51 pm (UTC)I read the book three months ago and can easily wait two more weeks to chat/discuss via a thread. I don't want to spoil the book for Rowana or leave her out of the discussion, and gods knows she isn't able to not read the postings! (Haha-like I could!)
We could give the chat a dry run and talk about...something else?

Date: 2/2/06 11:58 pm (UTC)So, hey, I'm going to be online at that time tomorrow night anyway. Whoever wants to turn up can, and we'll decide then whether KoA is to be mentioned or not. If one of you guys starts a discussion thread for it, I'm pretty sure I can stay out of it until I've read the book.
So, again, it's up to you guys.

Date: 2/3/06 01:25 pm (UTC)I really, really hope I can be there. I'm going to a play today, and afterward to look for art supplies with some friends, and so there is a possibility I will not make it on time. >_< I will try! I may only be there for a half an hour after 5 PM, but I will try! I hope everything goes well, guys, I'm really looking forward to it.
