Use this thread with handy sub-threads to discuss the new short stories and poems. Simply reply to the comment with the name of the story or poem you want to talk about. There is a thread at the bottom for the extra content, such as the almond cake recipe and the art references, if you wish to discuss those. I've not included threads for the previously published and renamed?? short -stories, as we recently discussed those. Also, I don't consider discussing already published content to be spoiler-y, but feel free to start threads on those if you'd like to revisit them.

So, so, so... You're telling me I've known the Magus's name since 2017 and didn't even know it!? I slammed the book closed and had to leave the room. I am so mad right now! The holy grail of QT lore was just sitting there the whole time.

Plus, once again, telling us a title only character's name by telling the name of a descendent who was named after them. I am so done... XD

I am so confused right now... I feel like Costis/Kamet just got confirmed without actually being confirmed. I don't know what to think!

I feel the same!! I can't tell what it's supposed to mean in terms of their relationship.

I don't know what the folding map/secret picture is? I think I had heard before that there's a "secret" associated with the map, so I assume this is the explanation of the secret- if you fold it a certain way you see the hidden picture .. but like are we able to fold the map to see this picture, and if so has anyone been able to figure out how to fold it?

(Edit-- okay I'm sure now after rereading that she is talking about folding the edge of the book, not the map! Sorry, misread. The secret of the map is just the magus's name (well, his descendent, named after him).

I'm also thrown by what we find out about Eugenia and her brother.

I thought gittas name meaning "well born", and the name origin of a couple who had long been childless, was a nice call back to the mythological origin of gen's name.

I thought it was interesting that the version of the "thief!" short story included in this book had Lader's name, instead of what was originally a different cousin that stenides warned gen about. I didn't notice any other differences in stories that were originally in the backs of other books, but it's been a long time since I'd read them so I'm not sure!

My current crack theory is that MWT actually made Costis a polygamist, like we used to joke about, and is messing with us by giving Costis two wives and a husband. Which is how he has two, seemingly blood, children who are half-siblings, (one resembling his sister's child) and yet Kamet is living with Costis, helping raise his children and is clearly going to be involved in the decision regarding Costis's son becoming Pheris's "voice."

Okay, maybe it's not a crack theory... Dear Moira, Costis is actually a polygamist! We were joking, MWT!
