More Potential Soundtrack Music
Mar. 11th, 2007 06:17 pmThis is an awesome song I only just remembered listening to when QoA came out. I absolutely love it. The lyrics remind me of end of QoA to beginning of KoA. I can sort of see both Attolia and Gen singing it though it's more obviously from Gen's POV. (I read The Thief for the first time, 5 years today so I've been looking for more potential soundtrack music.)
avian_xjfound y'all a link where you can listen to it. She rocks. So go listen. Here it is
Here are the lyrics for anyone who has trouble downloading the song.
Edit: When I say "soundtrack" I mean songs that suit the books. Just ideas talked about in The Conspiracy Room. That doesn't mean there is going to be films. I was listening to this at the same time I got QoA so that formed the mental link between the two...

Date: 3/12/07 03:16 pm (UTC)The peer-to-peer download sites (like Kazaa) nearly always involve illegally shared music. Some of the music blogs, OTOH, offer songs given to them by bands who want their music played to increase their popularity and exposure. Often the sites include older or lesser-known works that are owned by people who don't make a fuss about their songs being used. Most music blogs make a claim on the site that they will remove a song if the copyright holder wants them to. A lot of it is pretty shady and if a big record label or a well known group made a fuss they'd have to take the music offline.
We could come up with a playlist and include links to sites that offer the music.
Of course, if we offered downloads to songs on our playlist, I doubt anyone out there would do anything about it. But folks in those bands and recording companies have to put food on the table, too.

Checkers: Perfect! Ian McKellan is too old. Sam Neill=Just right. And he can smack me with a riding crop any day. :)

For the record, my "strange" comment was the result of poor proofreading (http://community.livejournal.com/sounis/69640.html?page=2#comments) or maybe a glass of wine. As far as Sam Neill goes, I stand by my comment.

And Megan replied:
"No, I am not issuing checkers a pardon. I am going to twit her about it for the rest of her life. so there."

But I'd be fine with it if people could listen, but not download and keep a copy. I agree that few people get in trouble over it, but that's not really the point.
What really brought it home to me was someone saying that we'd never go into a CD store and steal a CD just because the tattooed, pierced clerk *stereotypes wildly* wasn't looking. But illegally downloading music is the exact same thing. It's so easy to buy songs from Itunes, and you don't even have to have an Ipod to use it. No one likes to pay for things they can get free, but if your favorite band doesn't make any money on their music they won't record any more.
