Finally...

Alright, I finally gave in and created a livejournal account so I can post. I've spent time here at work doing it, yes, I'll probably get fired. Oh well. Jessica, the pressure is on! I believe you may be the only other holdout.

I wanted to remind everyone (and tell newbies) to please not post spoilers on this main page until our fearless leader Rowana has read KOA. Curse you, Amazon! After that I have MANY questions for all of you.

And the first is this - which I'm going to ask now. Did KOA seem almost TOO incomprehensible and ambiguous in order to hide what was going on? For example, Gen at the temple, which we talked about in another thread. I had to work really hard to make sense of some things and that might keep many readers from understanding the entire story, especially since the book is marketed as YA. I felt that way, to some degree, with QOA, too, but this was HARD. Whatcha think?

Dude, yeah, you have to read it more than once. But isn't that the awesome part, a book that makes you think?! Heaven forbid :p

I agree, they really aren't YA; the YA fooled me into underestimating them...but they really aren't adult, either.

That wasn't what I meant, but yes, I didn't really get that part either.

Yay! It's good to see you with a journal. It makes things much easier to keep track of. Feels more like a community this way...or something like that.

Anyway as to your question, *yes* I was quite confused during parts of KOA. And during QOA. And The Thief. Honestly, when it comes down to it I am one of the most oblivious readers on the planet, particularly when I read books the first time around. I catch basically nothing. It was one of the things that made me wild for The Thief, but every time I reread it I noticed something new; another hint or some bit of foreshadowing. All of the books seem to do that really well, but because I'm so clueless I tend to be extra suprised when things -- like Gen being Eddisan, not Sounisian -- turn up.

Did any of that make sense? :)

hehehe, yep . . . I think I'm the only one without a livejournal account on this site. I'll get to it eventually once I figure out how to do it. Can't be too complicated, right? :)

Yeay! I finally caved in and got myself a Livejournal account. I'll have to fiddle around with it and post some more messages after I get through reading all the new messages. Looks like this place has been booming since I last visited!

Jessica
