He always jumps. Bringing this video back (pretty sure it's circulated Sounis before) because I still see the land of Eddis in those landscapes and its people in those outfits and its Thief in those awesome jumps and sword dances.

The above link is a promo video for the Georgian National Ballet, which is awesome. And here's a more down-to-earth video of those same incredible dancers and athletes practicing and showing off their skillz:

What d'you think? Can you see Gen in some of those jumps? His cousins marching along those mountain ridges? If I stretch my imagination a bit, I can even spot a coy Attolia watching. :)

Now I can't get the idea of the Queen's Thief series being turned into a wicked ballet out of my head!

Queen's Thief would make an awesome ballet. Though it might have to be a cycle unless it was developed out of only a few books - you may be able to effectively condense and combine The Thief and QoA to make a long ballet.

Or an opera, which I remember seeing discussed before. Maybe a two-part series of operas, with a third to be added once the last two books manifest themselves. Like the Ring cycle, except better.

:D I wondered what kind of reaction that would garner.

Seriously though, this is something we should actually do. I feel confident there are enough Queen's Thief fans with enough musical knowledge that over a several year period we actually could produce a passable libretto with at least a partial score.

Ooh, you've written several plays, that's really neat. I'm in a similar position - I'm learning more about music, and would like to continue doing so, but I don't truly play anything, and unless I learn more I wouldn't really be able to contribute to the score beyond saying 'here I think we should start with some slow strings and then bring in a brass fanfare'.

But I could be useful on the libretto and general structuring.

I confess I'm a little bit curious how years in choir end badly (unless it's social reasons, which are completely understandable.)

Shucks. I'm intrigued by the idea of your choir, say, fomenting revolution through its choice of repertoire and being forcibly disbanded by the government. Or perhaps you practiced in an all-glass high rise, and the entire soprano section held a sustained note at the right frequency for too long, and all the walls of the room shattered out. And you all had to grab each other and the steel girders to prevent being swept out of the newly created wind tunnel.

(I don't actually wish you severe peril, just adventures.)

The Eddisians are Cossacks! They really do look like how I picture the Eddisians. Well, maybe not with the furry hats, but in the mountains who knows? And they are all doing the spinning from the traditional dances.

Hey there has been a Sounis ballet! It was a couple of years ago, but you can watch it if you go back and look at this post (http://sounis.livejournal.com/464462.html#comments). Lovely.

Haha, they DO look like sheep hats. Makes perfect sense.

Thank you so much for posting this again, Freenarnian! That is absolutely the Eddisian army coming over the ridge. (& this is absolutely one of my have youtube videos)!

BTW, the grandpa in this video was my model for Gen and Helen's great-great-grandcester in my ghost story. :-D

This video (the first one) makes me so happy! I saw this months ago and it did make me think of the land of Eddis. I feel like it's telling just part of a story, and I wish I could know more of it. The singers/dancers in the video are just bursting with personality.
