Excerpt from CoK:

Sounis turned to the magus. "Did you know?"

"That he was relentless?" The magus finished his question. "Yes. That he had this in mind, no. I did not realize that he disliked the ambassador so much."

"Melheret has a reputation as one of the best swordsmen in the Mede court," a soldier informed them, having overheard. "They say he trained the former ambassador, Nahuseresh."

"Ah," said the magus, understanding at once. "I see that he means to be prepared if he meets him again."

"Surely that's unlikely," said Sounis.

"I don't think unlikely means to him what it does to the rest of us," said the magus.

Sorry magus, I'm starting to agree with Sophos.

Let's do some math, folks!
The Thief 1996
Five years later: QoA 2001
Five years later: KoA 2006
Four years later: CoK 2010

As of yesterday, it has been five years since CoK was released. I think we're due.

Yet, no news. Interviews from MWT have dwindled. Sounis has grown quiet. The majority of posts by its members tend to be about other fandoms, or asking for reading suggestions.  Because we have NOTHING to read.

Will Eugenides ever get his revenge? #watchoutpointybeard #swordskillz

Will the Eddisians escape the sacred mountain in time? #ohnolava #zipcodechange

Will we ever find out why the woman in the kitchen still includes sand in certain recipes?  #what'swrongwiththegravy #i'mnothungry

Is the poor elephant doomed to wait ten years before he is stolen from a nameless intimidator? #impatientpachyderm #omghowcanistealthat

Will I ever break this cycle of despair when I read those fatal words, "'You gave me the gun.' They both laughed." and realize I just finished the book, with nothing new in sight? #whatnow

I know, I know. Stop whining and go to bed.

This has been a pity party by puppeteergirl. #icandoanythingiwant #smashinginkpots

It's starting to feel like the existing 4 books are canon and anything following those will be fan fiction.

Can you imagine Costis writing fan fiction about Gen tho. Because I can. XD

I've been thinking this since 2014. :) Surely, we are do for book five. However, I find encouragment in the fact that she is also working on book six, so the time gap between book five and six shouldn't be as long. ( yeah, right...)

Hopefully, we'll get something from Greenwillow other than, " Ha, ha, your face!" Sherlock references soon. xD We need a new book to jump start more discussion on Sounis and bring in new members. I agree it's been too quiet around here lately.

Yeah but she had book five in mind already when she decided to write book four as a bridge. Just sayin' book six may not come any faster. :(

Most likely. Thus, I added the "yeah, right..." XD Greenwillow is having far too much fun laughing at us. Megan will never get to go on Space Mountain at this rate. ): Sorry, if no one remembers that joke.

I forgot to mention.. Love the hashtags, Puppeteer! XD

I would love to read a version of TT with Sophos written commentary in the margins. Gen is a liar after all.

Those hashtags are absolutely perfect :D

I've been thinking the "due date" has been coming for a while now and am hoping that the lack of news means MWT is writing really hard or knitting. But updates would be amazing...

I keep thinking of series where the author did push to get the next book out sooner, and the book ended up being dreadful. Or where the book was way past deadline, and so the author just rushed to get it done and ... it was dreadful. Reminders like those keep me from going nuts*. I'd much rather it take ten years** and have the fifth book be AMAZING than to have her push to get it done sooner and not have it live up to the first four.

*well, too nuts, anyway

**please not really ten years

"I did not whine that much! Lies Sounis! All lies!"
Sophos looked at his once companion, now king, "Yes, my dear Attolis you do tell many a lie"
"Ouch.."

Clearly, we also need a version of CoK with Gen commentary written in the margins. :)

He'd LOLZ at Sopho's new found commiseration for his hunger after he got out of prison, and the times he tried to act more like Gen. Perhaps, even a little surprised with how much respect Sophos actually has for him.

I agree that if it isn't up to her standards yet, she shouldn't publish it. Does this mean I like waiting five plus years...? ): //sigh

On the flipside, the fact these books have been coming out since 96 means they've been with me since I was still a teenager (I first read them around 2008), and they will continue to be with me well into my adult life. I can't say quite the same for series that took four or five years to complete, and I already know the ending to. I'll be reading, re-reading, and talking about QT for quite a few years to come, and that's a pretty awesome thing.

I only started reading the series in November, so I'm new to it. Is there any signs when a new book is close to being published? I mean, there is no expected date at all, and I understand that, but would the date randomly appear when the book is published or before by months?

Greenwillow posted on sounis that they had recieved her manuscript somtime in 2010. It was about a year before the book was published. We also got the first five chapters released online a few months before the book came out. Quite a few people got a copy of the arc in some manner or another before the official version was released. So, once she submitts the manuscript, they give us some idea that the next book in the editing/publishing process. We can hope, at the very least. :)

Relatively new reader here (from December last year). What do we actually know about the upcoming book (or books)? This is everything I've found - have I missed anything?

Book 5
>Being re-written in first person, from 3rd person (http://www.bookharbinger.com/2013/02/megan-whalen-turners-ltue-signing-keynote-address/)
>In 5 words "Dirt. Gold. Slave. Lion. Ship." (I have no idea where the original source for this one is)

Book 6
The elephants! (http://enchantedinkpot.livejournal.com/50628.html)

I've seen other stuff I can't verify, mostly that book 5 is the second half of KoA, and that it has a new PoV character. Is this true? or just speculation? The million dollar question is obviously about release dates, which I'm pretty sure no-one knows anything about (I do feel very sorry for you people that started this series at the beginning - you poor, poor, patient people).

Oh no, the sequel to Seraphina isn't as good? I have only read Seraphina, but I'm one of those readers who don't mind dropping a series if it's not going to live up to the bar it set.

Yeah, I was honestly expecting it last year. Every month I thought was going to be *the* month, because of the 4-6-4-6 pattern she had going on. I mean, it might have been just coincidence, but it didn't stop me from hoping.

I agree that it's been sooo quiet here at Sounis lately. The Queen's Thief tag on Tumblr has been a little bit more active, but the community's just not the same (sorry to any of you who participate there; it's not you, it's most likely just the platform.)

Anyway, gladly count me as a guest to your pity party.

(EDIT: Also, I wonder about this, but could one of the reasons that Sounis has been so quiet lately is that most people had migrated from LJ? I keep hearing news about how LJ's dying...)

I would love a 20th anniversary edition of The Thief with Sophos's commentary. Maybe with the Magus or Eddis or even Gen's commentary too. In fact, even part of The Thief with commentary would do.

Could someone please tell Ms Turner.

Livejournal used to be the platform choice for fandoms, but Tumblr has largely taken that over with rebloging, tags, superior gif display, and so on. Nonetheless, I still prefer LJ, and it's community oriented platform. It has tools to keep out haters and prevent fandom wars. With LJ you can blog to a fandom, not blog about a fandom on your own blog.

Also, the fandom wars and trolling drama on Tumblr have really turned me off. I'm not a user, but I find just reading about the stuff upsetting. It seems for everything a large group of people like, there's another group saying these people are a horrible disgrace for liking that thing because this thing is (insert random reason here). And before you ask, yes I'm a superwholock fan. The ironic thing is they will say something about racism or homophobia, meanwhile they're being a fandomist. Hey, there's a new word for the brave new era of internet fandom. XD

Now, I have no real dislike of the platform, just some of the ways it's been used to harm people. I'm far from ignorant of the fact that Livejournal has it's own problems. They just seem easier to manage and avoid with the platform. For example, I have no love of the OMG community, and it's pointless, vacouse celeberty bashing. However, in the abscense of reblogging and tags outside of a community or personal journal. I don't have to see it.

Thus, concludes rants about Tumblr you never wanted to hear. ;) BTW, I don't think LJ is going anywhere, but it is becoming most popular in other countries. I hear it's all the rage in Russia.

Hehe, I have absolutely no problem hearing people rant about Tumblr. I agree actually with everything you said.

And while I'm a frequent reblogger (though not as crazily as other people), I do have an issue with the preference for curation over creation in Tumblr. And I know that some people would vehemently disagree with me here, because one of the reasons I've heard from people who prefer Tumblr over LJ is that it's easy for them to participate in the fandom just by reblogging stuff created by other people, whereas LJ is more involved rather than passive in the kind of participation it encourages.

The only thing I lament about LJ is how vacant it seems these days (which pushes me to spend more time on Tumblr). It's so much easier to find content on Tumblr especially if you're in a rather small fandom (hehe, even Legend of Eli Monpress has several dedicated fandom blogs there). And because there's just so many people there, it's easier to get your works exposed. Like, I've been posting artwork here on LJ, DA and Tumblr for the past few years, and I get the most feedback from Tumblr (even if it's usually just the measly "like", which is more than the absence of any response at all in the former two).

Oh my, don't get me started on shipping wars on Tumblr. Just last week, when a blog hosted FMA Week 2015, *somebody* just had to start a shipping war. The tagging system on Tumblr was broken by its users; now users use it as a vent space, instead of using the tag section for actually tagging the content of their posts. Which is why shipping wars are so prevalent, because there's just no way to filter content anymore based on tags.

Yeah, I heard that LJ is very popular in Russia and Singapore. Still, I get kinda discouraged whenever LJ does an update, because all the comments complain that LJ is becoming trash and stuff. (I'm wondering, how many Sounisians actually like the layout upgrade from last year? I really, really love it, especially design-wise.)

We can probably all agree on loving the endless content of Tumblr. :D The system of reblogging simplifies fandom participation, yes, but it also makes it less personally involved. Tumblr is an excellent platform for encouraging viral exchange. You don't have a personal blog with friends and communities with members, you have a themed blog with followers.

However, I think you have to be careful that you don't drive your followers away with reblogging by spamming them with content they don't want to see. I do appreciate a like system, but again it discourages actually participation. However, simplified participation encourages more people with busy schedules to interact in a way that works for them. Another reason Tumblr has gotten so popular, also ALL THOSE GIFS!

It's no fun to click on a tag to find 90% is senseless hate. This is the case for the superwholock tag, which is really hilarious because it's a fan created mash up of three shows: Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Sherlock. Haters mostly use it to hate on the shows individually in the same posts, when the point of the term was to cross them over. The term wasn't created to say you were a fan of all three shows, but that you were a fan of the crossover. The irony... However, they've mostly left the individual tags for these shows alone. It would be hilarious if it weren't so sad. XD What are they hoping to accomplish anyways? Fandom activism? Hashtag activism was so last week, don't you know? xD

Also, there was a cyber terroism attack just after the new year. Apparently, a bunch of sad people targeted members of various fandoms they indentified as emotionally unstable and flooded them with trigger images in the hopes of encouraging them to commit suicide. 0_o Sometimes... Again, that would not have been as easy with the Livejournal platform. I won't blow things out of purportion and say that Tumblr is evil or something equally as absurd. However, I just think the format is easy to abuse.

You would like this vid, Welcome to Tumblr. He makes hilarious parodies of other websites as well. Lots of fun.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2m-e4PgiVfM

It's like there's an echo. At least, the English portions of the site. xD Hey, remember when we couldn't edit comments without a paid account? Livejournal format is better than it ever was!

This is a brilliant idea, however I think we would have to do it ourselves. Everyone here knows the characters very well and Ms. Turner has some books she'd yet to write for us.
