Who has seen 300!? All the guys at my high school are obsessed with it leaving all the girls in their usual speculation, not really getting it. Just like Star Wars.

It was nice to see some more good 'ol Greek culture at the movies (Yes, I know Gen lives in a 'Byzantine world, but deep down, we all know its Greek at heart tehehehe.)

I'm actually not sure how many other guys lurk or contribute to this community...who else liked 300? I thought it was pretty inspiring.

Oh my god, are you serious? This movie was fantabulous Every frame looked like a painting, like war tuned into art. And the Spartans = smacktalking = ♥. *_*

In my humble opinion, 300 was gorgious. Just... Wow... And it certainly helped that I've been in love with the comic book for years, even though the parents won't allow it in the house...

But anyway, yeah. Um? The actor who played the captain's son (Not getting into details about what happens to him, to avoid spoilerificness) should be roped into playing Ambiades. Or, actually, possibly even Costis. But not Gen. He's far too tall for that... :P

I'll stop randoming now.

I haven't seen it, but my brother the Marine saw it and said, succintly, "Don't bother. It sucked."

Girls don't get Star Wars? That's news to me.

Ack its a choice between that or amazing grace and my friends and me are all leaning towards the latter. Ive heard reviews say it was too video gamey but I do like ancient Greece so perhaps I'll see it anyway.

Hm, I haven't seen it, but I have gotten four comments. 3=fabulous, 1= so-so.

One of the Fabulous ones described it as "Man: The Movie." I intend to see it eventually, because it is droolingly beautiful and there are quips about war and death! Sometimes you just need a good epic with roaring and killing and bare-chested, rage-filled men. Sometimes you just need that.

"Sometimes you just need that"

So true!

I love your emu icon! And it reminds me of the Disapproving Bunny pictures (which would probably make a good series of icons as well).

In my opinion, it looks awful. Apparently it's full of nothing but random violence and sex. Plus, it's from a graphic novel, so it's kind of ridiculous - not that graphic novels are necessarily ridiculous, but what's with the monsters on the Persian side? I mean, come on. I never like it when historical events get butchered. A couple of guys I know who've seen it thought it was awesome, but everyone else said it sucked. :-\

The monsters are actually either deformities (the giant warrior, the guy with swords for hands), or things like elephants and rhinoceroses; both things that could have been feasible. And the movie is, all modern day stylistic-ness aside, fairly historically accurate. As for witty dialogue, there was a fair amount of it; I was pleasantly surprised. The Spartans are apparently historically renowned for it.

And I mean, it IS a movie about the battle of Thermopylae; there's going to be a LITTLE violence.

Well, yeah, but the way I heard it, it was all violence, no story. :P But I haven't seen it, so I don't know.

Delurking here. . . If you like your movies pretty and don't mind lack of depth, a rather sexualized presentation of violence and death, and lots of men with oiled chests, you'll probably enjoy it. If you want witty dialogue, a movie you can take seriously, or an accurate or balanced portrayal of the ancient world, you've probably figured out by now this is not the movie for you. :) Um, check out It's Raining 300 Men (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi2t58CRmbU). So apropos!

As well you should be getting complaints-- my parents nicknamed me after Wicket, and it set the tone for my life. =)

Of course, you mention being in school, and so I will concede that if these girls did not grow up on the original trilogy, I honestly can't blame them for not giving a damn about the prequels. Even for a die-hard, they were embarassing. (Note to Holywood: DON'T LET LUCAS WRITE SCRIPTS. EVER.)

Cheers!

*agrees wholeheartedly* Oh goddess yes. That is TOO TRUE.

Please, oh please. Just because he can make entertaining stories doesn't mean George Lucas should be allowed to write. EVER. He basically slaughtered his own canon with Episode Three. It was so much better when he just had the ideas. *disgust*

I maintain that the Anakin/Padme dialog about love and beauty and all that crap is one of the most sickening things ever written. Love makes me blind and therefore you're beautiful because I can't see you? What the hell, Lucas. What the hell.

I was actually going to comment on the point that eugenides's world is based on ancient greece. But then I would feel out of place. Shmeh, I guess I will just need to watch 300.
