Hamiathes’s Gift Exchange signups are open!

If you've done a Yuletide-style exchange on AO3 before, the process should be pretty similar. If you haven't, have a look at the explanation and examples below, check out the FAQ and rules on AO3 and let me know if you have questions!

Quick points:



  • The tagset is massive (honestly, go us and our great ideas). Worldsentwined on Tumblr very kindly made a spreadsheet of the full tagset so you can peruse a little easier.

  • Signups are open until Wednesday, August 31 @ 10am ET.

  • You'll need an AO3 account to sign up. You can request one here if you don't already have one. We have some extra codes if the wait list is too long so please ping me if that’s the case!

  • Please read the rules before signing up so you know what you're agreeing to do

Hamiathes’s Gift Exchange Lives!

Hamiathes's Gift Exchange, the AO3 fanworks exchange, is back for this year!

Some of you might remember this event, which was previously run by pendrecarc who has graciously passed it along so the exchange could be revived. The tag nominations phase is currently open through Sunday night ET, and signups to participate start this coming Monday, August 22.

You can find the FAQ on the AO3 page. I'm also posting regular updates and reminders to the Hamiathes's Gift Tumblr. If you want to nominate tags or participate in the exchange, you need an Ao3 account. Get in touch if you don't have one and would like a code to skip the processing queue for new accounts!

Here is the full timeline as it stands:
Character and relationship nominations: August 15th through the 21st at 10 PM EDT
Signups: August 22nd through 31st, closing at 10 PM ET
Assignments sent out: September 2nd
Fanworks due: October 7th at 10 PM ET
Fanworks revealed: October 14st at 10 PM ET
Artists/authors revealed: October 21st at 10 PM ET

I'll be most responsive on Tumblr (both asks and messages are fine) and Discord (happy to provide a link if needed), but I'll try to check the comments here regularly in case folks have questions. Any interest in another Hamiathes Gift fic exchange?

Hi! I've been meaning to pop round for awhile to propose this, but I'm shy.

I also don't know how to run a gift exchange, I was just looking at the big block of instructional text on AO3 and my eyes glazed over. However I really love gift exchanges -- remember how lively the one was right after Thick and Thieves was released?? I feel like I don't want to miss out on that momentum again, with our very last book release upon us.

+ So, first things first... [livejournal.com profile] pendrecarc are you still around/have any interest in running another exchange for us?

+ Second things second: anyone else have any interest in running an exchange for us?

+ Third things third: is there enough interest in participating to drive me to overcome my Luddite ways and figure out how to run thee exchange myself?

--> Basically I'm just looking for a show of hands of people who'd be interested in participating, keeping in mind the timing of it all; The Book drops in early October so the exchange might be encroaching on the typically busy autumn/winter holidays season.

Creator Reveal (and future of the exchange)

Creators are revealed, but the comment forms are still open! Stop on by the archive if you want to see what people have made and leave them feedback.

This was the exchange's third year, and I'm glad to see it still going strong. That said, I personally can't commit to running it indefinitely.

I'm going to run it once more in spring/summer of 2019, to close things off after the last book. After that, if someone else wants to take it over, I'm willing to hand off ownership of the exchange. If someone is interested but doesn't have experience modding on AO3, I'd be happy to take them on as a comod to get some experience next year.

This is a small and low-stress exchange to mod, and it'd be an easy one to take on as your first exchange. You'd need to be able to:

  • Set and enforce rules and deadlines

  • Use the AO3 tagset and collection interface

  • Respond to emails and comments in a timely way

  • Post on both LJ and DW

  • Review fic and art containing any sort of rating or content

There's plenty of time to work out a transition if someone is interested in doing so, so no need to respond right away. If you're interested, you can contact the exchange email at hamiathesmod@gmail.com.

If you signed up for the exchange, you should be getting an email with a link to your gift. You can also find it by opening your AO3 page and following the Gifts link in the left-hand navigation pane on the left. Please remember to show your author or artist lots of appreciation!

Fanworks will remain anonymous until Saturday, September 1st. However, if you'd like to reply to comments on the stories or art you posted, you can go ahead--your name will be hidden until then.

I will be leaving the collection open for last-minute treats in the meantime.

Hello, everyone! We're about two weeks in and four weeks from the deadline. Your assignments are due on Saturday, August 18th, at 10 PM EDT.

A few notes:

Whether or not you're signed up for the exchange, you're welcome to post gifts, or extra treats! I've compiled the list of requests in this spreadsheet for easy filtering and searching. To send someone a treat, post it on AO3 to the Hamiathes' Gift Exchange 2018 collection--you can use the "Post to Collection" button on the top right--and enter their AO3 name precisely as it appears on the spreadsheet in the "Gift this work to" field.

If you're interested in reviewing fanworks and providing feedback, or if you're looking for someone to review your assignment, check out the Beta Post! To be sure all the beta offers are in one place, I'm only making this post on Dreamwidth, but you don't need a Dreamwidth account to comment.

Pinch hits will also go up at Dreamwidth as soon as anyone defaults on their assignment, and I'll post announcements to Livejournal and Tumblr. If you do need to default, please do so as early as possible so there's plenty of time to find someone to cover the the assignment.

Hi, all! Amid the general excitement over book 6 news, a couple of announcements on tag set nominations.

First, if you want to participate in the fanfiction and fanart exchange, you'll need an AO3 account. You can request one here. The waiting period is currently just over a week, which means you'll be too late for nominations but in time to sign up for the exchange. I do have one extra invitation I can send if you want an invite sooner than that, and others may have some available, too--leave a comment if you need one!

Second, just a reminder that nominations will close on June 28th at 10 PM EDT! You can see the tag set here and make nominations here.

Third, I've been asked if I'll allow more specific worldbuilding nominations, such as Worldbuilding: Songs about Ennikar & Immakuk. I'm happy to allow this, so feel free to include those nominations!

Finally, to whoever has an unapproved nomination for Relationship: Eugenides/Irene, this has already been approved as the tag Relationship: Attolia/Eugenides. I've left your nomination unapproved so you can change it to something else if you want.

Hi, all! The third annual fanfiction and fanart exchange will be kicking off shortly. Here’s my proposed schedule:


  • Character and relationship nominations: June 19th through the 28th at 10 PM EDT

  • Signups: June 29th through July 8th, closing at 10 PM EDT

  • Assignments sent out: July 10th at the latest

  • Fanworks due: August 18th at 10 PM EDT

  • Fanworks revealed: August 25th at 10 PM EDT

  • Artists/authors revealed: September 1st at 10 PM EDT

I'm not planning to make any changes to the process this year. You can review how everything works at the FAQ.

Hamiathes' Gift Exchange - 2018 Edition

Hi, Sounis! I just wanted to check in and say I am planning to run the Hamiathes' Gift Exchange this year on approximately the same schedule as last year. Nominations and signups in late June/early July, fanworks due in mid-August.

As I mentioned at the end of the last exchange, if you didn't default last year but failed to turn in your assignment at the deadline, I'm going to ask you to complete a makeup assignment before you can sign up this year. Please contact me via gmail at hamiathesmod if you have any questions about that.
