so I just re(re-re-re-re-re-re-re-)read TT, QoA, & KoA, and I came up with a question that I'm sure you all will have answers for:

In QoA, Attolia is thinking about what exactly she's going to do to Eugenides: ".......She had to consider that Eugenides, though he'd caused her no hamr beyond stealing something she hadn't known she possessed, could become the measurable danger to her that he was to Sounis."

what did he steal? (is this completely obvious and I didn't notice?) her peace of mind? her security? something more concrete then that?

Well, Hamiathes' Gift is the obvious answer. I'm not sure Attolia ever possessed peace of mind. (And he steals her heart later, of course, but he does that with one hand.)

This, too,was a previous post, and we discussed all of the above, though I think in Attolia's conscious mind, anyway, she's talking about Hamiathes's gift.

Her heart, but I don't think that is what she was thinking of :-)

It isn't? That's what I was thinking of too. :D

I think he stole her heart. Hehe. That's what I've always read it to be. Hence the wrecking of room when she finds out the Eddis and him were reported to be...close. End of the same scene: "...she tried to assess the danger that Eugenides had become."

This time, I think it's a different danger than the one he is to Sounis. It's not just about him being able to move around her palace and kill her in her sleep.

My supporting evidence that he steals her heart is the blurb on the back of the book: "if he succeeds in capturing something the Queen of Attolia may have sacrificed a long time ago." Eventually, we know that he does capture her heart. But it might not be at this moment.

I changed my mind upon rereading the part you're talking about (which is difficult-ly early in the book). I started to wonder, does she really love him at this point in time? Actually, I doubt it. So my question is..When did she fall in love with him? Is there an exact moment when he steals her heart? (i.e. the anvil moment, if you're a Lymond fan.)

Anyway, maybe he stole the red earrings that match her crown. Maybe they actually belonged to her, in her treasure room or something, but she never knew until he "stole" them to give them to her.

Hm. Good question.

Oh yeah. Hamiathes' Gift. I GET IT NOW! Forget what I said about the earrings. Hehe.

(i.e. the anvil moment, if you're a Lymond fan.)

Shouldn't that be the "languish locked in L" moment? :D

HAHAHA. That part is so funny. Anyway, most things I've read on forums have considered it Lymond's anvil moment when he realises he's in love. The whole "And deep within him, missing its accustomed tread, his heart paused, and gave one single stroke, as if on an anvil." et al. *grin* Lovely!

Yes, I remembered that the "anvil" part was actually IN THE TEXT about two seconds after I posted that comment. I plead cold-induced dopiness. :)

But there is that part where Eddis is being mad at Gen because of the stuff he's stolen from her ("I had to steal it, it was the only way to keep you from wearing it!") and she asks about her earrings. He carefully avoids actually telling her what he did with them. I always assumed they were the same earrings.

When I first read it, I thought it meant her heart, because I hadn't read TT and had no clue what was going on with this whole "Hamiathes's Gift" talk. But now that I read it, you can tell that she's consciously thinking about the Gift. It's of course one of the many double-speak passages, so it means her heart too.

As for what some people were saying about when she starts to love him, I think it's somewhere when she's spending all her time crying for him. But she doesn't realize it, she says, until the cell in Ephrata.

I was more interested in why she went into a flying temper tantrum when she found out Eddis and Eugenides were "rumored to be...close."

She was probably telling herself that it was because Eugenides was obviously not hiding in his rooms as she had been told, he was dangerous, etc. etc.

But *we* know why she *really* did it.

I think Attolia wasn't thinking of her heart, but (the best way I could think of to describe it is) her "balance". He appeared in her life and shook things up and she had difficulties dealing with it.
