           In case you weren't in the chat, I've decided to show my support and join the comm.  I've been a lurker for a few months now, and I can't tell you how much this group has helped me understand the books.  I don't really have much to say, so here's a question to spark some discussion: How old is the magus?  He has to be getting up there in years, because he had to be old enough to move away from home thiry years prior to The Thief, because of the plague.  But he can't be really old, because then he wouldn't be able to hike through the mountains and such.  Unless he's in great shape, but how does he get into great shape as the king's scholar?  Maybe he's secretly training with the Eddisian ambassador ;)

Yay! cheezluva is a former lurker. I've thought that the magus is around 40-45, old enough to have graying hair but still active and strong. And I think he still did soldierly things and hiked and camped. *dreams of Magus=Sam Neil*

That's just my impression, I've never looked at The Thief specifically for that. And Lord knows we all have different ideas about what really old is these days.

And you had lots of good things to say in the chat. What mountains are you a mountaineer from? You don't have to answer that.

I agree, 40-45 seems the right age for the magus. But I'm sure we all have our own impressions of each of the characters that suits us best.

I've always picture him around 50ish, maybe mid-50's by KofA, but still very sturdy from his soldier years, cuz Gen's grandfather was "a young man" during the plague years, so I figure the magus is maybe 20 years younger than Gen's grandfather. I didn't think 40 was old enough to complain about being old and tired.

I always pictured him as 50-ish.

Wow. I am amazed and delighted that so many of you think that the Magus at 50 or so is vital and active. I think so, but didn't think you all would.

"Mountain State". Got it. Had to look it up, but that's what I do best. Thanks. I drive through there several times a year.

I also pictured the Magnus as old and greying, sort of Gandolf-ish. But since he does seem to be crushing on Eddis, and I can't stand the whole
old-man-young-girl pairing I'm going to go with you'se and change him in my mind to a mid-forties James Marsters type.

ugh, I agree to, I still pretend he isn't.

He was 40 the last season of buffy so that would make him..um I don't know 43-4? For the longest time he pulled a Shirley Temple and wouldn't admit to just how old he was.
