Quick Question

In the very first scene of CoK's when Gen comes down to the prison to meet the Magus and Sophos, Sophos smiles at Gen, but the Magus goes out of his way and steps infront of Sophos to greet Gen first.

Why?

At first I thought it was because he was so excited to see Gen. But then I had some after thoughts...
was he protecting Sophos? Maybe he wasn't sure what would happen if Gen didn't recognize him? Or was he surprising Gen?

I thought the magus was trying to ease the shock of seeing Sophos so different. From context, I'd say Gen recognized both of them in the city.

I thought he was trying to control the situation since things were about to get intensely political. The Magus understood that now Gen was Attolis, and Sophos was Sounis while Sophos was just smiling like an idiot and glad to see his old friend.

Or, the Magus wasn't sure who was going to be stepping through the prison door first, and wanted to protect Sophos in case the person entering was another prison guard bent on bundling them off for questioning elsewhere.

I think I took that to mean he was protecting Sophos. I'd chalk it up to the Magus being *very protective* of his new king, rather than being untrusting of Gen. He doesn't even know if Gen will/has recognized Sophos...

Yeah, this is it, I'm pretty sure it wasn't excitement, Magus is very much level headed about the whole situation, unlike our Bunny!
